Wasn't it obvious?

Yang Yi's face paled as he realized what would happen if he were to surrender to the Marthall Family now. He said to Danny, "If the Marthall Family gets the intel back, they don't have to pay the hitmen anymore because they have achieved their objective. But the same cannot be said for the hitmen. Without the Marthall Family actually stating that their contract has ended, the hitmen will still try to earn their pay by pursuing me and Kate."

If Yang Yi were to simply surrender the intel now, the Marthall Family would still not end the contract because if they did, they would have to immediately pay the hitmen whatever the amount was on the contract.

Danny smiled slyly, then answered, "Loyalty, respect, and honor. Do you expect an arms dealer organization to hold such virtues? Don't be foolish. Marthall has all the right to deny payment, so why would they pay?"

If the payment could be denied based on the contract, then the Marthall Family had absolutely no reason to pay the hitmen. Therefore, even if Yang Yi handed the information over to the Marthall Family, he and Kate were still not guaranteed to be safe from the hitmen. In fact, based on this line of reasoning, Yang Yi shouldn't even bother making contact with the Marthall Family at all.

Realizing that there was no true end to this, Yang Yi tightened his fist in anguish, "We might as well just release the information to the public then!"

"If you are going to do that, no one would be able to save you." Danny smiled sympathetically, then sighed, "They will just send more and more people until you two are absolutely dead. Of course, you have the freedom to do it, but I won't let you do it here."

"...We are going to die anyway." Yang Yi said in defeat.

"No! I told you, I will stop at nothing to save your life. It doesn't take much to shelter just one person, but that girl is different. Since I'm not obliged to help her out in anyway, she has to leave tomorrow morning."

Yang Yi said rather loudly, "But I can't leave her to fend for herself just like that!"

"I won't try to persuade you or force you to do anything. For now, let's just wait and observe and see if we can improve the situation somehow. Just get some sleep first."

"I guess we'll see tomorrow. Can I go check on her now?"

"It's better if you don't. Just sit here and wait. They're operating on her right now."

Yang Yi returned to his seat and let out a deep sigh. In an attempt to regain his composure, he scanned his surroundings and asked Danny, "So, are you the owner of this restaurant?"

"Oh, no, no, I'm just a manager."

Yang Yi nodded his head and asked, "Does that mean you work here to conceal your true identity?"

"I wouldn't just call this place a hideout. I like it here. In fact, I think of restaurant management as my main job. Acting as Captain of the Dark Knights is, on the other hand, something like casual work."

As Danny took a sip from his cup, Yang Yi asked another question, "Can you tell me about my father? I want to know more about the person that he was when he was out here, working in whatever profession he was in."

Danny reached for the teapot and poured himself another cup. However, unlike before, he took a bit longer to answer this time. Danny replied ambiguously after some time had passed, "Your father was a just man."

"Just?"

"Yes, just. He was an information dealer who usually just offered information, but many people were willing to work with him because of his fairness. He never overcharged for his service, and he provided help when he saw fit. As an information dealer, your father never easily got involved in conflicts, but when someone offended him, your father made certain to exact just revenge."

"A just revenge? How can revenge be just?"

"There's a lot of ways you can take revenge. If someone deserved to have his whole family slaughtered, so be it. And if a death sentence wasn't necessary, your father would not shed even a single drop of blood. He held onto his principles and that made a lot of people respect him."

As though reminiscing about something, Danny suddenly smiled. "And another thing, your father was very much in favor of taking care of people with Chinese heritage. Whenever he saw a Chinese man, he would always try to help out whenever he could."

"Can you tell me some specific about the things he did?"

With a slightly troubled look on his face, Danny shook his head in rejection. "Probably not. It's all in the past anyway and there are too many people involved," Danny said, then raised his cup.

"I'm pretty curious about how your father passed away, actually. You don't have to tell me, of course, if it concerns his privacy, or yours."

"No, it's fine." Yang Yi replied. "He was murdered. As for who did it, I have no idea."

"I suppose it's natural for heroes to die on the battlefield. What about you? Why did you affiliate yourself with Jones and his spy syndicate?"

"I became a spy so I could find out who killed my parents."

"How long have you been working in this field?"

"Fourteen, no, it's been fifteen days since I met with Mr. Jones."

"Just half a month? That will make safeguarding you a lot easier."

As the two continued their conversation, a knocking sound came again interrupting them. It was the man who carried Kate out for treatment. He reported to Danny, "The treatment is done. She's in good condition now."

As he handed the man a cup of tea, Danny introduced him to Yang Yi, "This is my brother in arms, Zhao Yao. Ah Yao, this is Yang Sheng's son."

As a sign of respect, the two nodded towards each other as they met.

"Pleasure."

"Thank you very much. Is she in a good enough condition for a visit?"

Danny smiled warmly, "Of course she is. Sleep well tonight. If there's anything else you want to talk about, you can tell me tomorrow."

As they left the guest room, Ah Yao led Yang Yi to a small bedroom behind the hotel.

It was an amazingly clean room. It was spotless and free of any blood. With a white sheet covering her body, Kate laid flat on the bed and slept soundly. Her arms were spread out since they were attached to medical equipment.

Ah Yao affirmed, "She's safe now, but still asleep due to the anesthetic. I'll send you two to the hotel upstairs. Uhm, there isn't any female here to take care of her, so it's properly a better idea if you take care of her yourself."

"A hotel room? Are you sure?" Surprised with the overly kind treatment, Yang Yi hesitated.

Danny suddenly shouted from a distance, "Ah Yao, go help him carry her upstairs. And Yang Yi, the hotel is just above the restaurant. Let me say this again, this territory belongs to the Dark Knights. Your safety is guaranteed here."
