Chapter 22 - Departure

The city of Malakal was situated between North and South Sudan. Compared to the outskirts, the only difference was the number of houses that crowded around. Not even a slightly tall building appeared thus far in Gao Yang's journey.

The situation turned for the better after reaching Malakal's most boisterous district as the few scattered homes transitioned into actual buildings. Finally, there was a feeling of a real city.

Eventually they reached the hotel that they'd be staying at and an expectant white guy in front of the hotel welcomed them over. Not even waiting for the car to stop, the guy had already run over to Morgan's car and opened up Morgan's door. He said with an apologetic face, "Oh thank the lord you came back safe. This is great. I've already booked the room, please follow me."

Morgan jumped off the car and nodded to the white guy. He then walked over to where Gao Yang the rest were sitting: "Gentlemen, we have arrived. If there are people who don't have anything to do then you can relax. Though I'd imagine Professor Buck will be meeting up with the mayor and the police chief."

Professor Buck replied, "That's right, my people's bodies are still on the grassy plains. If it's possible, I'd like to travel during the night to find their bodies."

Gao Yang didn't think Professor Buck could find those bodies of the victims. Two days and a night had already passed and with such a long time period, it was enough for the vultures and hyenas to have feasted it all; not even the skeletons will be left alone.

Mr. Morgan nodded his head: "I'm willing to provide you with everything that's within my power. You can come with my men to go to the police station. The mayor is already there waiting. Another thing, the commander of the garrison is also there and that'll cut down some time. You'd even be able to immediately leave and also contact the embassy there. There'll presumably be people from the embassy to come and clear up this matter."

Professor Buck nodded in agreement. Without the help of Morgan, seeing the mayor tomorrow would already be good enough. Besides, who knows how long it would take to send people out to look for the victims' bodies?

Professor Buck and Morgan shook hands: "Thank you for providing such help, I can't thank you enough."

Morgan shook his head: "This matter was all caused by me, and doing all this helps relieve my conscience a bit. Professor, I will leave as soon as possible, most likely tonight. If you still have anything else you need help with, please do not hesitate to ask."

Professor Buck looked over to Gao Yang, then said, "Mr. Morgan, our mutual friend Gao Yang really wishes to go back home. I originally wanted to help send him back, but as you know, we're definitely going to stay here for quite some time. We can't possibly leave without clearing up this whole mess, so would it be possible for you to help him?"

Mr. Morgan smiled to Gao Yang: "I was just about to say something about it. Looks like we both have the same idea, I also feel Mr. Gao Yang should leave this place soon. He did kill a lot of people after all. Professor, while we're talking to the government and the adorable embassy, please make sure not to bring up Gao Yang to avoid bringing him any inconveniences. What do you think?"

Professor Buck gravely nodded to this matter and said, "I know the minivan taxis are ferocious. I won't bring him up. Also, my men have already agreed to zip it up so they won't give Gao Yang any trouble, don't worry."

Morgan waved his hand and signaled the white man who had opened the door over. Morgan then pointed at the white man: "Professor, he's one of my men. Once you're done preparing, just give him call, he'll be accompanying you until the end since I won't be joining you. It's not convenient for me to reveal my face and Bob's injuries need to be treated soon, so I'll be flying out once the plane arrives."

After finishing, Morgan said to Gao Yang, "Now you should go take a bath, change into a new set of clothes, and then wait for my plane so we can leave together. I'll be heading to Libya by myself. I strongly suggest you leave here as soon as possible. I'm asking for your opinions but you must make your own decisions."

After Morgan finished talking, professor Buck furrowed his eyebrows and said, "Mr. Morgan, please forgive my boldness but Libya current situation isn't the most peaceful, why do have to go there now?"

Morgan shrugged his shoulders and helplessly said, "You know, for people of my kind, no matter what we do, it's always best to walk in front of everyone. This is exactly why Libya is going to be in disorder. I need to get there as fast as possible. Business nowadays isn't so easy and I need to cherish every money-making opportunity. From what I've just heard, Libya is already in chaos and a civil war is almost inevitable. Therefore, I need to hurry up and head there. Without a doubt, for Gao Yang, leaving for Libya or staying here are both poor choices and thus I need him to make a decision."

Morgan and Buck both looked towards Gao Yang. Gao Yang hesitated for a bit, not knowing which decision to make. He didn't know sort of disorder Libya was in, and evidently Malakal wasn't some safe refuge, and Gao Yang especially didn't want to have any contact with the police or army here.

Gao Yang didn't want to wait a second longer. He only wanted to quickly head home. Thus, Gao Yang only hesitated for a second before making up his mind.

"I'll go to Libya with Mr. Morgan. That way I can head home faster."

Professor Buck nodded his head and walked up to give Gao Yang a hug. He then took out a pencil and started writing in a small booklet. Tearing off the sheet, he gave it to Gao Yang: "I don't have time to send you off but this is my contact information in America. Once you get home, please give me a call. I believe we're already friends now, right?"

Gao Yang laughed, "We're definitely friends. Once I get home, the first thing I'll do is give you a call. Later, we'll have all the time in the world to meet up, moreover, at very safe premise."

Morgan clapped his hands. "Okay, we still have plenty of time to bid farewell. Let us head into the hotel."

Professor Buck nodded his head and said, "You guys head into the hotel and chat, I first must head to the police station."

Once Professor Buck and Morgan's henchman left together, Gao Yang and the rest of the crew entered into the hotel as the two bodies in Mr. Morgan's car were also carefully bagged up to be transported by plane. From this alone, Gao Yang felt that Morgan was very good to his henchmen. A person who was willing to undertake many difficulties just to return his subordinate's body wouldn't be lacking when dealing with the living.

After Gao Yang entered his own room in the hotel, he unexpectedly found that his room actually had air conditioning. Although Gao Yang had already become accustomed to the drought-like weather that was close to forty degree celsius high, being able to cool off still left people in high spirits.

Gao Yang merrily had a bath as it was his first time doing so in three years. After he finished washing, two hours had already passed.

Gao Yang switched into the clothes Bob gave him. He and Bob were of similar height, and after wearing it, he found that the clothes fit pretty well; they were just a bit wide. But after not wearing clothes for three years, Gao Yang felt a bit weird wearing them again. However, Bob didn't bring any spare shoes and only gave him a pair of socks. So, Gao Yang could only wear the shoes he that had worn for three years.

Actually, Gao Yang didn't want to throw them out either as the army boots were of amazing quality. After wearing it for three years, other than the small cuts on the outer layer making it look old and dirty, Gao Yang thought that there weren't any other problems. Most importantly, Gao Yang had already developed feelings for his boots. Once he returned home, even though he wouldn't be wearing it anymore, Gao Yang would still take care of these boots.

While Gao Yang was brushing his unbearably stinky boots, Kathleen knocked on the his door room. She started blankly at Gao Yang, then smiled, "You're wearing clothes. I almost couldn't recognize you. Oh my, you wearing clothes in real life and in my imagination are a bit different."

Gao Yang shrugged his shoulders. "What you've just said can really cause people to misunderstand. You say it as if I've almost never worn clothes before, but I actually have worn clothes before."

"Alright, if you consider a grass skirt as clothes, then I misspoke. Oh, I came to give you this."

Kathleen handed over a slip of paper and Gao Yang took a look. On it was Kathleen's address, phone number, and a bunch of ways to contact her online.

Gao Yang carefully placed the slip of paper into his pocket and smiled lightly. "I'll keep this safe. Once I'm back, I'll give you a call."

After this saying this, Gao Yang didn't know what to do to keep this rolling. Whenever he was with Kathleen, there was always something amiss. He wanted to say something but he just didn't know what to say. It seemed like quite the predicament.

Kathleen giggled. "You aren't planning to ask me to sit down?"

As if woken up from a dream, Gao Yang quickly said, "Please sit, please sit."

At this moment, Kathleen suddenly let out a burst of laughter: " Your current expression is too clumsy. I bet you've never had a girlfriend."

Gao Yang scratched at his head with a face full of embarrassment: "Before, I didn't want one, and after, I didn't have a chance. So not only did I not have a girlfriend, I haven't even kissed one, haha."

Gao Yang was somewhat regretful after saying all that and he didn't know what caused him to blurt such a thing. All the words just came rushing out, but what made Gao Yang stunned was how Kathleen eyed him with fixed eyes and suddenly moved over. She used both hands to grab his shoulders as she pressed her seductive, red lips onto his.

Feeling the warmth coming from her lips, Gao Yang's mind went completely blank. This was actually his first kiss. Just at this moment, when Gao Yang hadn't had enough time to have a taste of this kiss, the door was suddenly pushed open as Bob came charging in.

"Hi, brother, the plane is here. We're going to depart soon……Oh, sorry, I'm heading out now."

But it was too late. After hearing Bob's shouting, Kathleen had already stopped the kiss and scooted back a bit.

Seeing Gao Yang's eyes burning with fire, Bob was at a loss for what to do and said, "Sorry, so very sorry, I'm truly deeply sorry, I'll leave immediately. Eh, we can delay our flight a bit, no problems with that."

Kathleen didn't respond to Bob as she softly smiled at Gao Yang. She pursed up her lips and softly said, "So sorry for stealing away your first kiss, but it seemed like there wasn't much feeling. It was not really what I imagined. Alright, hopefully you don't misunderstand. In children's fairy tales, doesn't the princess have to bestow a kiss to her rescuer? So I'm not pursuing you, I just wanted to express my thanks. Also, that was both of our first kisses, so we're even. Ok, this departing ceremony is over. See you.

Chapter 23 - On the Plane

Malakal's airport was very small; there were no flights at night. The only the plane that came to pick up Morgan was on the runway.

The car that Gao Yang and the rest were on was directly driven to the side of the plane. There were also three people on the plane who were standing beside the cabin door.

After Morgan got out of the car, he walked to one of them and gave him a hug. Morgan said with a low voice, "Your brother's body is in the car. I deeply apologize, Simon."

Simon nodded his head, and replied heavily, "Mr. Morgan, Moses was just accomplishing his duty. I'm grateful that you were able to bring Moses back."

Patting Simon's arm, Mr. Morgan and the other two people nodded at one another. After hinting at Bob and Gao Yang to follow him, they climbed onto the plane.

The plane that came to pick Morgan up was a beautiful G450 Gulfstream. This was Morgan's personal plane, and this type of plane was capable of making intercontinental flights. Gao Yang didn't know the specific price for such a plane, but he knew it must have cost a boatload.

The aircraft cabin had nineteen seats. Morgan gave Gao Yang a quick summary, then walked to the front end of the cabin and started conversing in a low tone with the people who had come to pick him up. Meanwhile, Gao Yang consciously chose the seat furthest away from Morgan.

Seeing Gao Yang sat in a corner, Bob smiled mischievously and sat beside Gao Yang. Using his arm, he poked him a few times. "Hey partner, don't tell me you're still mad with my dad? Okay, I'll apologize once more to you. I promise I won't ever ruin your happy occasion."

Gao Yang shook his head and softly said, "I'm not angry, I'm just a bit scared. Brother, I'm scared to death right now."

Bob eyed him strangely: "Scared? Why are you scared? Do you have psychological aversions to planes?"

Gao Yang laughed out bitterly: "No, I get scared at the thought of finally being able to go home. I've left my home for way too long, and I have no clue about what's happened back there. We have a saying in China, it's called 'the prospect of returning home arouses unknown anxieties,' and I think I'm experiencing this right now."

Bob shrugged his shoulders with face full of puzzlement. "That's a weird way of thinking things. What's there to be afraid of when going home? If I were you, I wouldn't contact them. I'd return home and give them a pleasant surprise. Alrighty, we're about to leave this godforsaken country. You should lighten up."

Right after they finished talking, the plane had also finished preparing for takeoff. When that guy called Simon entered the plane, the plane immediately closed its cabin doors and started its departure.

Once Simon was onboard, he didn't immediately find a seat but instead directly walked up to Gao Yang and held out his hand. After shaking his hand, Simon used a somewhat rough voice and said, "I'm Simon, Moses's brother. I'm here to express my gratitude for helping my brother accomplish his duty in protecting Mr. Morgan. In addition, thank you for helping Mr. Morgan in bringing my little brother's body back. Very thankful, youngster."

After saying that, Simon walked to Morgan's side and sat down. Once Simon was seated, the plane promptly started taxiing out.

Gao Yang knew Simon's brother was Mr. Morgan's bodyguard, Moses. He had been such a godly figure, yet when looking at Simon's ordinary appearance, it was not eye-catching at all. However, while he was shaking his hand, Gao Yang felt that the web between Simon's thumb and index finger was filled with calluses. So, he was certain that Simon was also a god-like figure.

As the plane took off, Gao Yang lowered his voice and asked Bob who was by his side, "That Simon, is he also your dad's bodyguard? He seems very godly, what's his background?"

Bob also lowered his voice as he cautiously replied, "What you said is correct. He indeed is a very godly figure just like his brother. He's one of my father's strongest subordinates. One of the brothers follows my dad, while the other is left behind in America. They are both Jewish and from Israel. I think they're also from the same unit, but they won't reveal just which unit they're from. Nobody knows. Even my father doesn't know. I suspect they're part of the Mossad, but this is only speculation. That's all I know."

Knowing that Simon was from Israel, Gao Yang's interest in Simon immediately increased. There wasn't any other reason, it was only because Israel's special forces were too awesome and very secretive. This was hardly an exaggeration. Israel's special forces created the most splendid military successes in current times, and up until now, Israel still hadn't announced the title of their special forces. People who could speculate about this only classified it as the "Feral boy" special forces. Without any confirmation from Israel however, there was no way to verify if there was actually such an existence.

As a military enthusiast, Gao Yang was very interested in Israel's special forces. As a result, he also had a strong interest in Simon. However, that was all to it. Gao Yang wouldn't be idiot and walk up to Simon to ask which unit he was in, nor could he be a groupie to go up to ask for an autograph. He only used a curious but respectable gaze to check Simon out a few times.

Seeing Gao Yang's eyes constantly on Simon's body, Bob lightly poked him and said, "Yo, brother, stop staring at Simon. Tell me, your Chinese special forces are as mysterious as the Israeli ones, what's that all about? I promise I won't divulge anything."

Not knowing whether to laugh or cry, he replied, "Where did you come up with the idea that I was in the special forces? I've already told you everything. I'm only a military enthusiast, nothing more."

Bob replied in contempt: "Sure bro, I'm also a military enthusiast. Okay, even though I'm only attracted to military equipment, I'm still a military enthusiast. Do you think I'd be able to live through those circumstances? Moses was already a godly figure, yet he still died. You dare to still call yourself a military enthusiast? Don't kid with me, you're definitely one of those with a special mission, right?"

Gao Yang took a deep breath: "I really am a military enthusiast, not some special forces, nor am I a spy. I've only had three years of professional shooting experience. As for why I performed fairly well was because I was in the right place doing the right actions. That's all. Of course, the most important reason why is because I was lucky. Very very lucky, to the point where bullets were dodging me. Other than that, I have no other explanation."

"Really?"

"Really, I swear to God."

Looking dejected, Bob let out a sigh: "Okay, I believe what you said is true. Oh right, I have a present for you."

Right after saying that, Bob took out a gun harness around his waist and passed it to Gao Yang. "I'm giving this to you. My beloved, a hunter's best friend."

Gao Yang received the harness and took out a sparkling, large-sized silver revolver.

The gun was a Smith and Wesson's m686. The m686 could considered Smith and Wesson company's best product. With .357 magnum bullets, this type of bullet's might was extremely huge. It could potentially kill bears and lions. Furthermore, the m686 could fit seven bullets, making it much larger than the majority of revolvers.

Because of the large recoil and size of the m686, it wasn't a mainstream carry-on gun. However, the m686 revolver rarely got stuck. The .357 magnum bullet's large firepower, in addition to its needless security, guaranteed the shooter's protection. The gun could be pulled to immediately shoot when encountering danger. This was how the m686 became a hunter's most beloved.

Bob's m686 had a six inch long gun barrel, and it wasn't the m686's biggest model. It felt heavy in his hand, and this was actually Gao Yang's first time ever touching a revolver. Regardless of the feel or the appearance, the m686 simply made Gao Yang caress it lovingly. The m686's chromium body and ivory gun handle showed that this was a limited edition premium product.

After fiddling around with it for a long time, Gao Yang let out a sigh and returned the gun back to Bob. With a face of helplessness, he said, "Forget about it, it's better to return it to you. I'm about to return to China and I won't be able to bring this gun with me."

Chapter 24 - A Big Problem

They arrived in the wee hours of the morning. After Gao Yang stepped off the plane, he felt a slight chill run through his body and he couldn't help but shiver.

Benghazi in January was over ten degrees celsius, but in the early hours of the morning, it was only around ten. Gao Yang was used to warmer climates after having lived on the plains for so long.

Gao Yang followed Morgan into an actual hotel where he could finally lay in a real bed and sleep. Gao Yang wasn't able to sleep for long however. At noon, Bob invited him into Morgan's room.

Seeing Morgan in this setting, Gao Yang could hardly believe that he was getting close to sixty. Like him, Morgan had experienced a high level of stress during the escape. Now that he was sitting on the plane with him, Gao Yang was dispirited and tired while Morgan was full of energy.

Gao Yang sat before Morgan. Once Gao Yang settled in, Morgan pulled out a wad of cash and put it on the table. He then pushed it over to Gao Yang and smiled. "This is six thousand in U.S. dollars. I still owe you ninety-four thousand. My apologies, but that is all the cash I have on me right now. Of course, it doesn't look like you have the means to receive this much cash. But don't worry, once you've returned to your home country, as long as you give me a single call, I will immediately transfer the rest into your account. I'll even pay the transfer fees."

He gazed at the stack of cash on the table. Gao Yang stiffened as he looked at Morgan. "Mr. Morgan, I don't understand what you're saying."

Morgan opened up his arms and said, "As I've said before, as long as you escort me to Malakal, I will pay you ten thousand in U.S. dollars. I am a man of my word and now I am fulfilling my promise."

It was only then that Gao Yang vaguely remembered that Morgan had said something along those lines. He had not thought much of it at the time however. Never would he have imagined that Morgan would really go through with his promise.

Gao Yang thought about it for a long time. He then took the wad of cash, put it in his bag, and sincerely said, "This right here is enough. Mr. Morgan, I was never planning on taking your money. But, I do need some cash right now so I will take this much. No need for the rest. I didn't do much. Even if you weren't there, I would still bring Professor Buck and the others to Malakal. Besides, you're already taking me out of Africa so I think we are now even."

Morgan shook his head and said, "I like your attitude towards money, but I don't like your attitude towards business. Friendship is friendship, business is business. When I hired you, you didn't reject the business. Instead, you escorted me all the way to Malakal. Our business has concluded and it is only reasonable that I pay you. We must honor the contracts we enter. Besides, you may not think much of saving a stranger from the end of a shotgun's barrel, but I still stand by the same words. Friendship is friendship, and business is business. You take the money, but our friendship still remains."

After hearing Morgan's words, Gao Yang nodded and replied, "Alright then. Mr. Morgan, thank you for your generosity."

Morgan waved his hand and laughed, "Alright, youngster. Benghazi isn't a very big city, nor is it very spectacular, but for someone who's been living in the plains for three years, you must want to take a look around, right? Go, go. Find some fun things to do to reward yourself. Most importantly, find a good restaurant and get a good meal. I think you must be famished right? I am very sorry that I won't be the one to take you to your first real meal now that you've returned to civilization. Unfortunately I have some other matters to handle."

After Morgan finished talking, Bob raised his eyebrow and said, "Hey, brother, now that you have money in your hands, don't you want to take me out for some fun?"

Gao Yang smiled. He stood up and shook Morgan's hand before turning around to Bob and saying, "Let's go. No matter what you want to do, I will be treating."

The hotel lobby had a currency exchange service, making it convenient for them to exchange the dollars into dinars. Gao Yang and Bob walked out of the hotel and strolled into the center of Benghazi. It was as though a lifetime had passed since Gao Yang was last in civilization. He couldn't help but sigh. "And I thought that I would never return."

Bob shrugged his shoulders. "Don't think too much of it. All you need to focus on right now is celebrating. First off, let's get you into some more decent clothes. You look a little comical right now."

Gao Yang felt a little chilly in what he was wearing as well and agreed with Bob. They found a shopping center a bought a new outfit. However, Gao Yang decided to keep his current shoes. He even specifically found a pair of jeans to match the shoes.

With a complete new look, Gao Yang felt refreshed and full of energy. He and Bob began to discuss where to go next. They agreed on eating a meal first, but couldn't decide on a specific restaurant.

As they looked down the street filled with shops and restaurants, the two had no idea of where to even start. Gao Yang made a suggestion: "I've got a good idea, how about we eat some Chinese food?"

"Sounds great! But where are we going to find a Chinese restaurant? I haven't seen a single one this whole way here."

Bob glanced everywhere and then looked back down at his watch. "This is my first time outside of the country so I do want to look around. It's getting late. How about we keep an eye out for one as we walk around?"

Gao Yang didn't have a problem with that so he strolled the streets with Bob. The two slowly made their way onto a small street. There were less and less people around them. Looking at the empty street, Gao Yang suddenly remembered something.

"Hey, Bob, your dad mentioned that Libya wasn't very stable right now, and he cautioned that we shouldn't walk too far from the center."

Bob looked completely carefree. "You saw just now, everything looks completely fine. It doesn't look dangerous or chaotic at all. Do you think people would be out and about shopping on the streets during a war? You can tell there's nothing wrong just from looking at the people downtown."

Right as Bob's words fell, a large group of people suddenly appeared in the streets. Several of them had even appeared from the small alleyways that fed into the street. They raised up a flag and shouted a salute. They looked incredibly angry. En masse, they surged forward.

Gao Yang and Bob gaped at the scene and said at the same time, "F*ck."

"I take back everything I said just now. Something big is happening right now, we have to leave."

Gao Yang quickly dragged Bob back a few steps and whispered, "Quiet down. Let's just wait for them to leave .AFterwards we'll just go back. You don't want to follow them to their meeting place do you? When there's less of them, we'll go straight back to the hotel."

Bob nodded and whispered, "D*mn it, looks like we'll just have to wait for them to pass through before we can leave."

Gao Yang and Bob didn't make a single move and just stood at the the corner. They needed to sneak past countless people. Gao Yang was worried that they would be the focus of these b*st*r*ds attacks for the sole reason being that they were foreigners. He himself was easier to be mistaken, but Bob's head full of golden hair was too conspicuous. You could immediately tell that he was a Westerner.

Thankfully, Gao Yang and Bob only caught their attention, but didn't provoke any attacks. Finally, they managed to wait until the streets were empty again. Gao Yang wiped away the sweat on his brow and said, "Hurry, let's leave now."

The two of them jogged in the opposite direction of the mass. On the way, they happened upon four other groups of people. Thankfully, despite the daunting experience, no mishaps happened as they passed the groups. Gao Yang was most upset by the fact that none of the groups were heading in the same direction. Gao Yang couldn't get a good read on which direction was safest.

The worst part was that they were lost now. The two of them walked from street to street, and didn't even know where they were in the city. Instead, the only constant was that they kept on seeing these mysterious groups. They couldn't even call over a taxi if they wanted to.

After seeing another mass of around a hundred people, Gao Yang tugged on Bob's clothes and softly said, "Follow behind them, otherwise we won't get out of here even if we wander around for a day."

While he felt that Gao Yang's suggestion was risky, Bob couldn't think of any better ideas. And so, Gao Yang and Bob followed the group of people as they tried to return to the main road.

Very quickly, Gao Yang realized that his suggestion wasn't very smart. The mass of people that they were following grew bigger and bigger. As Gao Yang looked behind him, he jumped and saw that more people were starting to follow behind them. Now Gao yang and Bob were a part of the mass.

Gao Yang tugged on Bob's sleeve and curled his lip to signal to the side. The two of them slowly started leaning towards the edge of the group. Right as they reached the border, they walked out of the labyrinth of streets. Before them was a large street, filled with an angry mob.

When they returned to the main street, Gao Yang pulled Bob over and the two began to ran. They didn't care which direction they went, as long as they were away from that angry mob.

Gao Yang and Bob did everything they could to avoid notice. The carefully walked along the walls of buildings. Just as they reached the end of the crowd, Bob suddenly stopped.

"What's wrong, why aren't you moving?"

Gao Yang said in a panicked voice. It was then that he saw Bob's pale face.  Bob dragged Gao Yang over and whispered, "Look behind you. There's a Chinese restaurant."

Gao Yang anxiously whispered, "You can't seriously be thinking about eating right now, right?"

"There's two men standing next to the doors holding guns. What do we do?"

Gao Yang slowly turned around and followed Bob's gaze. That's when he saw the lantern hanging next to a Chinese styled gate. The bushes were neatly trimmed, and looked just like a Chinese Lily. Right behind those bushes, shadows seemed to be moving and two guns pushed past the leaves.

Gao Yang was only twenty or so meters away from that restaurant and that was already very close. Gao Yang scouted out all four directions, but there were no forked roads nearby, nor were there any alleyway to hide in. However, that Chinese restaurant had an intersection, and a small street was closeby.

Gao Yang sucked in a deep breath. In a whisper, he said, "We can't stay here. If there's a gunshot, everything will be in chaos and then we'll have a huge problem on our hands. They seem to be waiting for something. We'll act as if we didn't see anything and walk over right into the small alley."

As he finished his sentence, Gao Yang strongly resisted his fear as he walked head-on towards the two muzzles. After taking two steps, Gao Yang glanced back only to see Bob's head lowered, almost as if he was shaking; but he still followed behind.

Gao Yang spared no effort in pretending as if nothing happened. With Bob at his side, step by step, they closed in on the Chinese restaurant's entrance. They were only four or five hundred meters away from the two hidden gunmen. Thankfully, the gunmen didn't fire.

Reaching the end of the block, Gao Yang wasn't sure how to proceed further. Despite that, he quickly passed by the hidden gunman's position, and turned right into a small alleyway. Gao Yang soon found out that there were still a couple people peeking at the small gathering of people on the streets. Gao Yang immediately made a decision. He'd rather be travelling in the small alleyway all day rather than get stay in the big streets as a target or be stampeded to death.

Gao Yang focused all of his efforts to resist his fear. He suddenly turned into the small restaurant's street, with Bob following his footsteps. However, Bob's nervousness almost made him not able to walk normally. Gao Yang didn't have any other choice but to pull Bob's arm before fast-walking ahead.

Gao Yang's heart was pounding like a drum, when he walked about ten or so meters, the fear of being exposed to the guns couldn't let him keep his composure. He glanced back and discovered that nobody had followed. Then in a low voice, Gao Yang said, "Run."

Bob lowered his head with his body shaking non stop, and had no reaction to Gao Yang's command. Gao Yang unhappily tugged at Bob's arm, then abruptly started running.

Bob almost fell down from Gao Yang's tug, but Gao Yang used a lot of power to let Bob regain control of his body. Once Bob reacted however, he immediately scampered off.

Gao Yang and Bob didn't run for very long. From behind, the sound of a gunshot erupted, and immediately after, all the guns started firing off. There was at least a dozen guns firing at the same time for them to release this type of sound.

After hearing the gunshots, Gao Yang and Bob both increased their running speed. The two people followed the streets between the buildings and ran for their lives. Just at this moment, Gao Yang realized that to the wall beside him, cement pieces mixed with brick started bursting out. Then, tiny dents started appearing on the walls. At this point, Bob who was running beside Gao Yang suddenly fell to the floor.

Seeing Bob drop to the ground, Gao Yang's mind didn't have enough time to think. He stopped running, grabbed Bob's arm, and started to pull him.

"I've been shot!"

After Bob shouted, he used both his hands and feet to cooperate with Gao Yang as he started crawling in order to increase their movement speed. Just then, Gao Yang found that behind him was a store entrance so he used his all of his body's energy to pull Bob a couple steps forward, hoping to enter the store.

As soon as Gao Yang dragged Bob to the store entrance, he found himself face to face with a South Asian man with an ax in his hand looking at them in alarm. Gao Yang yelled out, "Help me, pull him inside."

That South Asian man shook his head in fear and soon after he actually started closing the entrance door. Gao Yang started to worry and he stuck out a foot to stop the door from closing as he shouted: "Let us in, they're shooting outside, do you want to see us die?"

Gao Yang was truly worried now. If that man still didn't let him in, he'd have to forcibly make his way inside. One could hear the panic of people in the street and their chaotic footsteps, with gunshots following close behind. Now there was good news though as the entrance to the store was extended outwards a bit and Gao Yang and Bob were within the protection of the brick walls.

They didn't have to be scared of bullets temporarily, but if they couldn't get inside the store to evade the bullets, Gao Yang didn't dare imagine what sort of aftermath would be left for them. Just when he let go of Bob's arm, wanting to seize the South Asian man's axe to forcibly charge into the store, the man suddenly let out a sentence.

"Are you Chinese?"

Gao Yang blankly stared for a bit, then responded immediately with a big voice: "Yes, I'm Chinese, please let us in."

After hearing Gao Yang say he was Chinese, the South Asian man tossed aside the axe in his hand and opened the wooden door. Then, he grabbed one of Bob's arms and pulled him in with Gao Yang into the store.

Once inside the store, the South Asian man loudly called, "Give me a hand."

Gao Yang helped the man bring down a roll-up sluice gate, then shut the wooden door of the store as well. Finally, they locked it all up before finally letting out a huge sigh of relief.

After closing the door, Gao Yang ran over to the now sitting Bob and urgently asked, "Where were you hit? Let me see."

Bob was a bit embarrassed and pointed to his left knee and said, "It seems like it wasn't a gunshot, look, there's no blood. But earlier, it really hurt, so I thought it must've been hit by a gun."

Gao Yang looked at Bob's knee, and found there was a gray mark. Gao Yang let out a long sigh and smacked Bob's knee. "You little rascal, scared the sh*t out of me, you were only hit by debris okay."

"Sorry, but it really did hurt, so so much. Under our circumstance, it's obvious I'd think I was shot."

Finding out Bob wasn't actually struck by a bullet, but only by the cement fragments. Gao Yang finally calmed down, and sat his ass on the ground while swearing. Even though they still haven't completely left the danger zone, but for now, they were safe.

"I'm truly sorry for the way I treated you guys earlier, but in these times, things are very sensitive. Especially foreigners, they are extremely dangerous. I had to be extra careful, really sorry."

The South Asian man was holding the axe and guarding in front of the entrance. Then with a full and tensed up face, he started talking with Gao Yang. Gao Yang got up from the ground and nodded to the South Asian man and replied: "But, ultimately you still let us in. Thank you."

"Are you really Chinese? Say something in Chinese."

"Ni hao."

Hearing Gao Yang using Chinese and saying "Ni Hao", the south Asian man smiled and said : "You are Chinese, that's why I let you in, I can say a couple simple words in Chinese. Ni hao, zai jian, and so on. I friends with a Chinese man, he's just up the street's restaurant. Did you guys see that restaurant? The foreigners now a days are very dangerous. We must avoid them, but you are Chinese, naturally it's different."

Gao Yang was a bit curious, "Why? Why are Chinese people fine?"

The South Asian man put down his axe, and extended his hand, then with a smile said: "I'm from Pakistan, friend."

Gao Yang came to realization, and seized the South Asian man's extended hand, and shook with vigor: "Oh no wonder, I'm extremely grateful, friend."

"I'm called Malik, from Karachi. Very pleased to meet your acquaintance, friend. But we must wait a bit before we can chat. I need to shut the windows as well, it's too dangerous."

After a simple self introduction, Malik armed with his axe again. He peered out from the shop's display window, Gao Yang also looked out. Just then, he saw the store on the other side, someone came out and stood there looking around."

"Go inside, do you want get hit by bullets?"

Gao Yang and Malik shouted out pretty much at the same time, but Gao Yang used English, while Malik was using Arabic. Unfortunately, just as they shouted out, the man standing outside suddenly exploded into a mist of blood, and fell onto the ground.

Just as the person on the street fell down, Gao Yang and Malik saw two men running over, and in their hands were guns. One of them who was passing by the person's body, suddenly stopped. Aimed at the man who was thinking of crawling back his store's head, and fired a shot.

Brain matter splattered everywhere including on the display window in front of Gao Yang. After the sound of splat, it slowly dripping down, leaving behind a whitish trail of fluid.

Gao Yang and Malik stared at each other wide eyed, both of them dashed to the display windows side, behind a wall. Soon after, the sound of gunfire rang out, and the display glass shattered.

Malik stood to the side of the glass display, within his hand clutched the axe. Gao Yang looked in all four directions, and found that the store he was hiding in was selling tools. All sorts of metal hardware and electric powered tools. There was no shortage of weapons. Gao Yang ran to the shelves, and grabbed two long axes, and sat beside Bob who was on the ground, who at this point also stood up, and took long steel crowbar, standing behind Gao Yang.

Gao Yang threw an axe over to Malik, and after he caught it, he put down his short handled axe on the window sill. The three of them raised their weapons, getting ready to smash in the gangster's head who was climbing in from the display window.

Gao Yang saw everything clearly, the man who fired was a black man, and from the looks of it was fairly young, only 14-15 years old. But the ways he acted out was a bit too cruel. In front of a man who had already lost the ability to resist, and needing to shoot him in the brains, these type of people Gao Yang definitely wouldn't let break into the store.

Thankfully, it seemed like the young black kid who fired wasn't planning on coming into the store. After firing at the display window a few times, he hurriedly ran away. Hearing the footsteps growing further away, Malik said in a deep voice: "We need to find a way to seal the window. F*ck, I should've have added a protective mesh for the window as well."

The store was filled with tools, things to seal up the window wasn't lacking. The three of them started to work together, and soon after using wooden planks and long metal rods, the window was sealed. Even though there were still some cracks, but it was impossible for people to charge in.

Just when Gao Yang and the rest sealed up the window, the streets started swelling with panic stricken people. Fortunately, nobody tried to charge into the store, but after the crowd had left, the gunshots didn't stop. From the beginning to the end, there were scattered gunshots, moreover some were fired extremely close to Gao Yang and his crew.

The three of them were continuously tensed up while listening to the activity beyond the door. Once the streets finally started to grow quiet, led Gao Yang to believe it was completely safe. Just then, the there were gun shots in front of the door, furthermore the shots were fired at store. The bullets penetrated through metal roll up sluice gate, then hit the wooden door sending out wooden pieces everywhere.

Chapter 26 - Old Soldier, Old Gun

When the bullets passed through the two doors, they shattered all the tools on the shelves. Gao Yang and the others had no way of stopping them from shooting.

Once the shots stopped, someone outside seemed to shout something. They all spoke in Arabic, and so Gao Yang couldn't understand what they said. But, he could hear three to four others shout in response.

Malik whispered and said to Gao Yang, "They want us to open the door, or else they'll burn the house down."

While Malik spoke mostly in English, there were several Arabic words mixed into the sentence. Thankfully, Gao Yang could still understand most of it. He shook his head and said, "Don't believe their bull. Once they come in, they'll kill us all. Right now, we have to protect ourselves. Do you have a gun?"

"No gun, but what will we do if they actually set fire?"

Bob lowered his voice, "Believe him. Don't open the door. Otherwise, you'll have signed our deaths. They won't burn the house down. Who do you think they are? Are they thugs trying to loot the house? Or are they armed fighters who just want to kill people?"

Malik hesitated for a moment and said, "I don't think they're trying to plunder the house. But, if they were thugs, they wouldn't come out now. But, the armed fighters have no reason to target our store. Are they looking for you?"

Gao Yang shook his head, "That can't be right. We just arrived today, and I don't know any of them. Can you ask them what they are here for?"

Malik hardened his resolve and shouted in Arabic. When the people outside heard Malik's words, they became even more violent and even started kicking at the door while shouting.

Malik said to Gao Yang, "They said that someone saw a mercenary from the Gaddafi enter here. They want me to hand them over. I think they're talking about you guys. Also, they want me to hand over all the cash in the store. I think, they're probably also thugs."

Gao Yang and Bob's foreigner faces ended up bringing them trouble in the end. Gao Yang was frustrated, but also felt guilty. He whispered to Malik, "I'm truly sorry. Looks like they are here after us. We have brought you trouble."

Malik shook his head, "We are friends. Friends should help each other. I'll tell them that they have it all wrong."

Malik spoke to them in Arabic again. But after a few sentences, several shots were given in response. Soon after, Gao Yang could smell the strong odor of oil. Right as he saw the situation devolving, he heard soft shots sound just outside the door and several screams follow.

Gao Yang couldn't tell what happened, but after he heard the gunshots outside the door, everything went silent. Mixed into the odor of the oil, was the iron smell of blood.

Gao Yang and Malik exchanged glances and said together, "They've been killed."

Right then, a voice sounded from the room above, "Malik, what happened?"

Gao Yang turned his head around, and saw an old man appear from the steps of the second floor. The old man's head was covered in silver hair. He had a hunched back and seemed to tremble as he stepped down the stairs. The old man looked to be at least 80 years old. But, he didn't move very slowly. He looked just like an old shop owner, an innocent expression on his face.

When he was halfway down the stairs, he stood still and pointed at his disarrayed store, "Who are you? Malik, what happened?"

Gao Yang was most astonished by the fact that the old man was white. He didn't even know what to say. He just stared right at the old man while Malik ran over to the stairs. He supported the old man and quickly said, "Hurry back, its too dangerous here. Remember what I told you before. Exactly. Do exactly what I said. Its dangerous out here. You have to go back. Ah, those two came to the shop to seek refuge. A shoot out is happening outside, and a lot of people have died. Just now, some people were attempting to charge into here, but they've all died now."

Malik's voice was urgent and he repeated several words over and over again. Even so, the old man understood everything. He nodded and then said to Gao Yang and Bob, "Looks like you will have to stay here for a while. It won't calm down outside for a long while. You two, make yourselves at home."

After that welcome to Gao Yang and Bob, the old man then said to Bob, "You have done well. Don't let those b*st*rds enter. We have to protect our own things. To deal with those kind of thugs, you have to be firm. Follow me, I'll give you some things."

After he said that, the old man unsteadily walked back. Malik supported him up the stairs. After telling them to be careful, he followed the old man up the stairs.

Gao Yang and Bob looked at each other, and finally Bob couldn't help but say, "What is that old man planning? Nevermind, we'll think of something. Bro, we gotta get out of this place."

Gao Yang let out a sigh and said, "I want to leave this place too, but you saw the situation outside. I think that as soon as we leave, we'll be as good as dead."

We need to give my Dad a call. Who knows how his situation is like. I need to tell him what happened. I hope he isn't in any danger right now. D*mm*t, why did something like this happen right as we come out."

Bob was feeling a little panicked and paced back and forth. That's when the old man and Malik returned. The only difference was that Malik was carrying a long briefcase in his hands.

For the sake of respect for the old man, Gao Yang and Bob stood at the bottom of the stairs and waited for the old man to get down himself. The old man reached out and gripped Gao Yang and Bob's hand before saying, "Gentlemen, my name is Fedor Von Brauchitsch. Welcome to our shop. You can be at ease here. Stay for as long as you want. If you need anything, feel free to ask us."

The old man's english was extremely fluent and he articulated his sentences well. But, when Gao Yang heard the old man's name, he immediately realized that the man before him was German, and he was a nobleman. The old man's name wasn't just the generic German name, but rather it had a "von" within it, to indicate his noble birth.

The old man must been from the Junker family. Historically, they had been dukes in the German aristocracy. Any man from the Junker family were typically involved with the military somehow. Just looking at the German generals during World War II who had the name "von" and you could see just how powerful a name like that was.

Gao Yang's instincts told him that the man before him was not simple. After making a brief introduction of himself and Bob, Gao Yang politely said, "I am very honored to have met you, Mr. Brauchitsch. If any of us can help, then do not hesitate to ask."

Fedor nodded, "Thank you. Gentlemen, let me first take out the thing that will deal with those scoundrels."

Fedor walked over to a box and sat down. He then signaled to Malik to put the briefcase before him. Fedor pulled out a key and opened it up.

Gao Yang's instincts were telling him that there was a gun in that case. When Fedor opened it up, Gao Yang gasped in delight. While there only looked to be scattered parts in the case, he could immediately tell that it was a gun and bullets. And, there was more than one.

After opening up the box, Fedor carefully picked up each piece and a cleaning rag and began to wipe down each piece.

"Old b*st*rd, after all these years, you're finally making another appearance."

While the rifle in the box was in pieces, but from the shape of the gun's butt, Gao Yang immediately recognized it as an old but famous gun, the KAR98K!

The 98K was one of the main guns used by the Germans during the Second World War. Anybody with some knowledge of the second world war knows the name. There was a small handgun next to the rifle, it was the famous P38.

No matter if it's the rifle parts or the gun parts, they all had a thick layer of oil, and it was maintained extremely well. It looked practically new. Even the bullets were wrapped in a layer of wax paper and didn't rust at all.

Gao Yang was starting to think that the old man was a sniper before. That much was obvious. Because, besides the gun and the bullets, there was also a special ZF41 scope a pair of chrome 6x30 binoculars. Just these two things were enough to demonstrate the old man's history as a sniper.

Watching fedor carefully put the rifle together and then place the scope on top, Gao Yang finally couldn't help but excitedly ask, "Mr.Brauchitsch, were you a sniper before?"

Fedor looked at Gao Yang for a long time, and was silent. Finally, he nodded and said, "I was in the German National Defense Army, 164th Corps…"

Fedor only said that one sentence and said nothing else. After shaking his head, he twisted the gun bolt. That's when Bob cautiously asked, "Then, are you a Nazi?"

Fedor glanced at Bob and solemnly said, "I'm not a Nazi, I am a military man. I am a man who will fight for Germany. The only difference was that in 1943, before the African Army surrendered, I had already escaped. A friend had told me that my parents had been executed when they were found to be helping the Jews. They had hidden my girlfriend in their basement. My brother had died Stalingrad. After hearing that news, I escaped. Now, I am a just a deserter."

After slowly saying those words, Fedor put the bullets in one by one. When he was done, he pulled the gun barrel with a Hua La, sending the bullets into the chamber.

"When the war finished, and I returned to Ruhrgebiet, I saw that my home was in ruins. My sister had died during a bombing, her remains lay scattered among the ruins. My brother died in Normandy, he manned the SS12 tank. When he died, he was only 15. He wasn't like me… My brother was a proud Nazi. He even felt that our parents deserved their end. He wanted to use his life to scrub away the shame that our family had brought. In the end, it was just as he had desired.

After he said that, Fedor aimed the gun and continued, "Gentlemen, after hearing this old man's story, you must know that I hold a different opinion for Nazis."
