Chapter 41
CHAPTER 41

It was evidently Lios.

He gazed at Helba, stood next to me and spoke.

“I told you not to make a move. Why don’t you follow my instructions?”

“Well…,” I mumbled.

“We don’t follow your orders because we can’t trust them…”

BlackRose tried to complain, but Wiseman took control.

“But, Kite. This time you did good. We finally found the location of Net Slum, chunks of junk data… and an unauthorized server! All thanks to you and your friends!”

“What?”

As I pondered his words, to Lios’ left and right the air shook and dozens of merchant PCs that looked exactly like Lios appeared. Copies of Lios with his arms crossed. It was the Pig Race Squad.

“Squad members were watching your actions.”

What was that? Then, did the feeling of being watched that I had at Chaos Gate come from them?

The merchant to the right of Lios spoke.

“We are the Urkuk Pig Racing Squad.”

The merchant to the left of Lios spoke.

“Behold, the unseemly data is fixed”

They all spoke at once.

“My King, leave this to us.“

Everyone was ready at the same time with their same signature phrases that I had heard before. The aim was Helba.

Helba did nothing. I just stood there.

A figure appeared from behind her. A petite old man PC. No, perhaps it was an NPC.

“Helba, is there manpower?”

“Tartarga. There is no problem here. Rather…”

“I know. Everyone has already evacuated.”

After exchanging a few words, the old man disappeared in the darkness of dusk.

“Helba. For the sake of order, I’ll erase you and this town,” Lios yelled.

“Order? The order the world wants or the order you want. Which one should we have?”

Helba’s voice remained calm as usual.

“Of course, the order I want,” Lios remarked, raising his right hand.

“Enough chit chat. Let them disappear!”

I suddenly came forward.

“Wait!”

I stood between the two people and opened my arms.

I had been on Lios’ side for the time being, but I had the benefit of being helped until now by Helba. I couldn’t help but to watch those two argue.

First I looked at Lios, then Herba.

“Please stop! Why do you guys have to fight? Why on earth are you fighting?”

“Because I’m a system administrator,” Ryos said instantly.

“Because I’m a hacker,” Herba said instantly.

“That’s not it,”

I shook my head.

“Lios, I apologize for ignoring your instructions. But Herba knows a lot about the incident. Isn’t it necessary for you to get that information?”

“All I need is to erase that woman from the world,” Lios said.

“That woman is a hacker. She’s a parasite that rides on the server for free and damages the internet as much as she wants. We system administrators have long been looking for this Net Slum location. This city hidden from system managers. We finally found it. To your credit, Kite.”

“No, I didn’t come here with that intention.”

Helba spoke as though making fun of him.

“Even if you tell this stubborn man that, he won’t get it.”

“Such a mouthy hacker. I don’t need to tell you that you have no sense of ethics.”

At that moment, noise ran across the screen. It was a tremendous amount that couldn’t be compared to when we transferred in. The ground trembled and the surroundings were distorted.

“What did you do?”

Lios looked around in a confused manner. In this unexpected turn of events, the Pig Racing Squadron was similarly rushed.

“I’m not doing anything But, it seems she is not pleased with us.”

“She?”

Lios roared and Herba stared directly at him.

“Yes, that is, this world itself. Let me tell you something, Lios. Net Slum moves from server to server not just to escape admins. It’s disgusting to say in front of you, but the management are not the enemies of Net Slum.”

“What are you talking about?”

“We were hiding from her – from Morganna Mode Gone.”

The tremble became stronger.

“Junk data flows into Net Slum. We hid them… and she doesn’t like that. Still, we hid it well until now…”

Helba looked at me and smiled.

“However, Kite and admins showed up. Thanks to this turmoil, this place has been exposed.”

“Helba…”

Did that mean we had gone too far?

“That means…,” BlackRose mumbled.

The screen suddenly flipped over in response to the words. The noise blew up, and when the screen returned to normal, gusts blew through with tremendous force.

“What is that?!” yelled BlackRose.

Following her line of sight, I looked up at the sky.

A monster consisting of six leaves like canoe oars slowly descended towards us.

It was a strange figure with a strange air about it. It was definitely of the same kind of the Reaper or mural monster we had fought prior.

“Glory and dignity to us!”

Shouted one of the Pig Race Squad.

“Judgment and punishment on our enemies!” another one shouted.

“Our King, entrust us with this!” all of them said at once and rushed towards the monster.

However, as soon as they reached the monster, a leaf struck and exploded, blowing away the Pig Squad’s members.

Lios’ decision was quick.

“Withdraw! This monster outside of specs! We can’t win!”

They looked back at BlackRose and me.

“Keep away from it! Run away! Understand?!”

He transferred out quickly after these remarks.

The Squadron members blown away by the explosion also stood up and transferred out one after another.

Suddenly, there was no Helba or other inhabitants. Only BlackRose, Wiseman and I were left to face the monster.

We’d completely run out of time. A transfer to another area started as usual.

It was a weird place where dark purple rocks floated in the air.

“Hmm, interesting,” Wiseman said.

“Is this your so-called Reaper or your mural friend?” Wiseman asked as though with admiration.

“It’s a monster that’s hard to describe. What is it called, I wonder?”

“It’s enough to call this thing a leaf!” BlackRose yelled with her big sword.

The battle with the leaf took a long time.

It was not as strong as the Reaper, but it seemed to have the ability to regenerate and no matter how much damage we did, it steadily recovered.

Even so, we gradually reduced its HP, and finally I released my Data Drain ability. The flashing text was read as “Magus”. When the data was absorbed, the “leaf” turned into an astonishing stone statue like the previous two monsters. Not long after that, BlackRose struck it with the tip of her sword amd it shattered into pieces.

Immediately after that, a quake struck us again, shortly before we were immersed in the afterglow of victory.

And then there seemed to be a lot of noise, the screen went dark, and we were forced back to what seemed to be Carmina Gadelica.

In front of the Chaos Gate, we stood for a while like fools, stunned at the scene before us.

It looked like a different place. It changed a lot since we had gone to Net Slum.

The cityscape was covered with unusual graphics as if it had been infected by some virus. There were no people. Neither PC nor NPC were there. Burns and crawling yellow strings were eroding the city.

“What is this? How did this happen?” BlackRose grumbled.

As expected, Wiseman also seemed to be lost for words.

Of course I had no response either. What happened to The World?
