Chapter 35 – Sparring Partner

None of the people in Zou Liang’s vision had come to challenge him. This brother had given up quite a lot of Beast Spirit—Zou Liang had received four complete points of Beast Spirit after fully absorbing all of the power—and it was evident there was no need to continue. People would only challenge him if they had an absolute chance of winning anyway; no one would come up to throw their lives away.

Though the beastmen were brave and fierce, they were not stupid.

Beast God Martial Artist?

It was a pity that Lika’s last message was something that Zou Liang completely did not understand. This profiteering rascal was currently counting his Beast Spirit; he was already daydreaming of the instant he would be using it to create his Engraving Knife.

After Zou Liang left the Beast Spirit World, the people were like an exploding pot; the originally calm Beast Spirit World burst out into an uproar.

This was a warrior?

Clearly not at all!

Shadow Hunter?

Clearly not either!

There wasn’t any occupation like this among the beastmen, and one who tried to be a Jack of All Trades would be a Master of None. One should focus on a single occupation rather than undevotedly playing around with all of them like a duck did its mates: this was a concept that all beastmen understood. Regardless, it was clear that this “dish of meat” had overthrown this concept; calling him a dish of meat was no longer fitting.

It was unknown when, but the arena’s surroundings were not all meat dishes; there were also one or two warriors that had completed a couple sets of plain grade gear. There was no shortage of first grade Beast Transformation or Armour Change warriors from the various occupations, and there were even people who possessed bronze-grade equipment.

Technique!

The terrifying techniques that the warrior had displayed left people in fear.

Who was he?

What did he wish to do?

It was unknown who, but somebody recalled Lika’s last four words —— Beast God Martial Artist!

There was an ancient folktale of the beast tribes: in the past, a frightening occupation had emerged among the beast tribes. Their whole body was a weapon, they upheld the tenets of a beastman’s original form, performing techniques at their pinnacle. They were rumored to be the Beast God’s doppelganger, having the strongest battle spirit and likened to being invincible. People had named this occupation the Beast God Martial Artist and warriors of this occupation were succeeded generation by generation, the difficulty of which being indescribable. It was likely only possible to achieve this occupation if a master was to die and be reincarnated, thus the people upheld the occupation as Asura!

However, this was just a rumor. One had not appeared in the last couple centuries, leading the warriors to believe that it was just a beautiful folktale.

Was this person ……. an Asura?

On the second day, Zou Liang and Ou Nisi Te woke up at the same time. Ou Nisi Te’s personality did not change much in response to his victory; on the contrary, he had gained even more faith in his older brother’s training.

Zou Liang and Ou Nisi Te were both doing press-ups. In this area, Zou Liang indeed could not beat Ou Nisi Te, but he practiced the crucial points and did not care for inflexible muscle as his main focus for stronger battle techniques.

A duvet hung at the entrance, and while Ou Nisi Te practiced his basic strength, Zou Liang was instead hitting the duvet. Ou Nisi Te couldn’t understand this concept and had never heard of someo

ne that would hit something soft, but if his big brother was doing something it must have had reason.

Zou Liang was trying to further his understanding. Though he had learned many martial disciplines on Earth, he had merely been imitating others; there were certain movements and concepts that weren’t clear, especially the strength that is put behind some attacks. Though qi was something that could only be obtained after hard work, there were ridiculous times where not even hard work would yield fruit. Now, however, being born with innate qi had completed the basic fundamentals.

His fights in the Beast Spirit World felt as if he was invincible, and gaining a grasp on tempo and chain combinations was only the beginning. If he had an ability in which he was stronger than anything else in the rest of the Beast God Continent, it would be the utilisation of qi, and his Virtue—which could be considered the comprehension of Beast Spirit Power—would definitely be more than a mere single point.

The current Zou Liang’s attacks were all firm attacks and he did not have many gentle ones 1. The early stages had only needed a small amount of experience before he could use it, but it was the latter stages that aroused Zou Liang’s interests. An attack that would only appear in fantasies formed in his mind, but in a place like this—where he had the fundamental qi—it could actually be possible to achieve. Also, if he was able to gain a grasp of these techniques, they would become a mighty killing weapon!

Ao Li Quan Ya ate snacks nonstop, sighing in her heart. To become a warrior was indeed not easy, however these two’s training methods were stranger than the others’. Ou Nisi Te’s arm and legs would go up and down and at least this could improve one’s arm and leg strength, but what the heck was Ya Se up to?

Hitting a duvet?

If he had been hitting a stone it would at least be more normal, and his entire small body was strange. She didn’t wake up this early just to sit here and watch this, did she?

Leaning against the balcony observing from on high, the two’s movements were as clear as day. This was the room that Ao Li Quan Ya had specifically swapped to just to observe these two strange brothers.

The two practiced like this for two hours and were dripping with sweat. Zou Liang wiped his sweat and merrily spoke, “Ou Nisi Te, Berserker Mode is only a method of extreme circumstances and cannot be used as a normal attack method. If you can refrain from using it then don’t use it; you absolutely cannot depend on it.”

“Yes, big brother,” Ou Nisi Te nodded honestly even though he did not feel that the Berserker Mode had anything wrong with it.

But Zou Liang had to strictly require this. After entering Berserker Mode, Ou Nisi Te might be able to easily gain victories, but this all came with an overdraft. Perhaps beastmen were different from humans, but Zou Liang believed in the philosophy of the conservation of life, and no matter how little or large there would be some damage. But the overdraft was only a secondary concern; if one became infatuated with this way of easily obtaining victories, they would shirk their training. As time went on they would develop a dependency and ultimately they would not achieve a single thing.

Talent was a good thing but—if applied incorrectly—it was instead a hindrance. He remembered when he was working for his university examinations where there had been a little king gifted in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. In the last three years of high school he casually studied, flirted, and played ball yet came first in the school easily: he was a genius. However, he experienced utter defeat in the university entrance exams like the battle of Waterloo. It would become more apparent when one entered society, but some geniuses just ended up as normal people. This painful kind of thing was the truth of his previous life.

Thankfully, Ou Nisi Te had the utmost faith in Ya Se. If it was another person, they would think that he was just envious; such a strange thing this faith was.

“Today, I will teach you a way to initiate the offensive. Try with all of your strength to defend; fold up the duvet and use it to block in front of you,” Ya Se smiled.

“Big brother, I can’t beat you,” Ou Nisi Te busily waved his hands.

“I’m not going to fight you directly, you just need to defend and understand this move’s power. I will be attacking from the front.”

As soon as Ou Nisi Te heard this he understood and replied, “Hehe, I’m not good at anything else but am best at being hit. As long as I’m not hit in the vitals, I’m not scared of anything.”

Ou Nisi Te’s skin was rough and had thick flesh tempered through the years. Though he had little understanding of why he was being hit, the recovery ability he had gained through this was astounding.

“Really? Watch carefully; I will attack from the front, so make sure you take careful notice of my movements and my shoulder.”

“Come, come!” Ou Nisi Te excitedly welcomed. He did not have any other qualities aside from his resistance to being hit. It wasn’t that he didn’t wish to accompany his brother in training, but it was that his movements were too slow; even if he tried the same training, no fruits would grow.

Though Ou Nisi Te was very dimwitted in some areas, occasionally he could be very smart.

Zou Liang adjusted his breathing while—on the balcony—Ao Li Quan Ya put down her snacks. To spar in training was normal for a warrior, however….. why was Ou Nisi Te hugging a duvet?

Taking a deep breath, Zou Liang launched himself towards Ou Nisi Te with his normal battle spirits. Ou Nisi Te braced his entire body; his older brother seemed to be transforming every day.

Author has said 劲 but I believe it should be gentle/calm (静) instead (same pronunciation)
